I ‘Need’ A Sign!

Meet me at the crossroads. Show me a sign.

Far too often I have had seen or heard people ‘needing’ a sign that God is there. They ‘need’ to see to believe. They ‘need’ something to hold on to so that when it comes to believing in Him that they can absolutely, 100%, not deny the possibility.

This has come across my path because of a friend recently, & as well as the online community. Whether you need a sign, proof, or just even the plain desire to be amused by such a thing, this post is for you. (And if you aren’t any of these people, then please keep reading I have something for you too!)

I am not here to ‘prove’ to you the way that you want me to.

I could never possibly do that.

Not because God isn’t real, but that fact that no matter what I could possibly tell you or supply to you, you still probably would block it out.

This is just a fact.

“A senseless man does not know, Nor does a fool understand this.”

(Psalms 92:6)

Although I wanted to come on here today and possibly enlighten you.

“If we do not have a correct theology of suffering, we will be shocked, devastated, and angered when adversity strikes us or those we love.”

You see for God, faith is a necessity.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Hebrews 11:6 KJV

and as a believer, it is with faith that we have become children of God. (Galatians 3:26)

Just as NRSV states in 1 Timothy 3:16, “Without any doubt, the mystery of our religion is great”. In other words, the mystery of what we believe in, can be difficult to wrap our minds around. It can seem like a mystery, just as it states, but it is important to realize why we believe. The Bible is not just a book written by men. It is Holy Spirit inspired. Meaning, we can trust the Word of God because ,“All Scripture is God-breathed . . . so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16–17, NIV)

(Seek- Acts 1:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21, & John 14:26)

It’s not just some rule book either. It is basically a God given guide to the life we live now, and the life that is to come. It is God giving us the ins and outs. It is a way that a God, that is incomprehensible to our small minds (compared to His), was able to show us that He wants us to know who He is. To show us that He loved us so much that He wanted us to know. He is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33), and although we may have suffering in the world, He offers us a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

This is often a misconception of God and His believers. None of us, nor God, have EVER said with God on our side we would erase the problems of this world. It’s not that with God as our helper we eliminate the struggles that persist and try to tear us apart.

BUT with God you are never going through any of it alone.

With God you have an understanding of who you are. ( I D E N I T Y)

You have truth in a confused world.

ALSO just because we now have the love of God in our hearts, does not mean that we are or think that we are perfect. In fact, we know we are sinners!

YUP, we are SINNERS in NEED of saving!

Which is why Jesus Christ is our key to everything.

“Then there comes a roaring sound; He thunders with His majestic voice. He does not restrain the lightning when His voice resounds. God thunders wondrously with His voice; He does great things we cannot comprehend.” – Job 37:4-5

There are many who are standoffish about the idea of a ‘religion’. I want to express to you today that a relationship with Jesus Christ, is more than just religion. This life may be all that we are familiar with in the moment, but this moment can be taken away from us tomorrow. You do not decide when your last day here is. The only One who can determine that is the One who gave you that first breathe of life in the first place. What if today was your chance? What if right here and right now was the last opportunity for you to decide your fate? Would you take the chance and except God’s open invitation? The only thing you have to do is say, yes.

“He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”

Proverbs 28:13 NKJV
If this genuinely interested you, I pray that you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior today. If you do, all the promises God has laid out for us will then also be for you. You will not regret this heart change. “Whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved.” (Acts 2:21)

To the believer:

This is a note to not only hopefully encourage you, but to incite you as well.

When the one you are trying to influence for Christ doesn’t seem to be going well, do not lose heart.

When there seems to be a wall, know that there is a reason it is there.

Actually, there could be many reasons.

Here are just a few:

  • Because they are not saved through grace and do not believe on the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, they technically are still in the flesh.
  • You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. (Romans 8:9 NIV)
  • Since they do not belong to Christ, they do not know or recognize His voice. -“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10:27 NKJV)
  • Also since they have unbelief, this leads to their hardened heart toward God. (see John 12:39-40)
  • Lastly, one last thing that was brought to my attention that was extremely interesting involving all of this! 1 Corinthians 1:18 states, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” They just don’t see it the way that we do!

This is unfortunate in the moment, but be hopeful. They may not understand where you are coming from now but don’t give up on them. Remember where you were before you became a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), remember who you were before. Use the fruits of the Spirit as a guidance of how to handle the future scenario with whoever they are: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. You were once upon a time in their same shoes. (Colossians 1:21; Romans 5:7-10)

So, be patient with them, as hard as it may be at times. Know that God sees you and your efforts. Pray unceasingly. For your prayers are doing things that you may not see now but soon you will. One last thing before I forget, know that whoever they are, see you too. Keep being an example for the world to see. It isn’t for nothing. Trust me, they notice. 😉

“He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

Psalms 103:10-12 NKJV
